The GOC, and FC (established by the Pacific Games 2017 Act shall each have a have a Chairperson and Board. The HP Sub Committee shall also have a Chairperson and Board . Each Chairperson reports to the Chair of the NHA. Each Committee would be headed by a paid Executive Director position. The Executive Director positions of GOC/HP and FAC will be appointed in consultation with NHA. The GOC Executive Director will also be appointed in consultation with the PGC. The GOC and HP committees along with the NHA Secretariat may appoint its own staff and advisors as per allocated budgets and responsibilities. The NHA will engage a Chief Technical Officer within the NHA Secretariat who would report directly to the NHA Chair and provide overall coordination and direction/integration across all Committees. NHA Board’s responsibilities is to ensure all areas of the Games in accordance to host agreement, PGC Charter and PG2023 Act 2017 are delivered in accordingly. NHA’s responsibility is to ensure the committees functions as they should otherwise NHA Board has the right to address any parts of the Committees that are deemed to have defects and nonfunctional. All Chairs, Executive Directors and the Games CTO are responsible for reporting and updating NHA on activities within the first week of each month. The NHA Secretariat shall review all such reports and in turn provide an overall report to the Minister responsible for the Games through the NHA Chair. The Chairs and Executive Directors of all Committees and CTO shall ensure that any outside technical advice that is provided to the Committees shall be done in a manner to facilitate local transfer knowledge.
Solomon Islands Football Federation new $72 million football academy is now ready for 2023 pacific Games next month, after the project enters its completion stage and was handed over to the Solomon Islands Government yesterday, 26 Oct 2023.
This makes the Solomon Islands Football Federation the second highest beneficiary of investments by the National Hosting Authority for the 2023 Pacific Games.
The SIFF Football Academy featured two football pitches, an outdoor futsal court, a beach soccer pitch, an administration building and a dormitory building with fifty beds.
Prime Minister and Minister for the 2023 Pacific Games in attendances at SIFF handing over to receive the completed PG2023-SIFF Football Academy, thanked the government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, PNG High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, the government of Japan, JED Enterprises and JQY for completing this major project and assistances to making the PG2023-SIFF Football Academy a reality.
“This academy will provide the training ground and a home for all our young soccer enthusiast, both men and women. Having the best dedicated football academy in the pacific is only the starting point for our soccer loving country.”
Sogavare emphasized that soccer is a national sport in the Solomon Islands.
“It is my hope that the SIFF Football Academy will not only be a source of inspiration and pride for our nation but becomes the factory where we produce the best soccer players in both gender and across all three codes for our nation.”
He mentioned that his government is looking to put in place a policy to acknowledge and recognize performances of athletes that bring pride to the country in the field of sport.
H.E Moses Kaul, PNG High Commissioner to Solomon Islands stated that Solomon Islands is progressively making its mark on the global stage when it comes to football, futsal and beach soccer.
He said PNG will cooperate with Solomon Islands for sharing of information and technical assistance in this sporting field.
“This significant development will motivate team Solomon Islands to bag more gold medals particularly from soccer football in the coming days. We believe that this world-class facility will enhance capacity building for youths of this country, Melanesia and the greater pacific region so as to produce elites and professional sportsmanship.”
Kaul said the challenge is for the management of this important facility, all stakeholders stand to take ownership and maintain it to prevent depreciation of its value.
“We reaffirm at this juncture our commendation for the astute leadership of Prime Minister Sogavare, respective Games Committees and the National Hosting Authority for their steadfast commitments and tireless efforts in preparing for the Games which is a major event in the region.”
The PG2023-SIFF Football Academy marks the end of the handovers of all the venues and villages for the 2023 Pacific Games.
